Report of National Seminar on Laws and Policies in India related to Agriculture Sector The Chandigarh Law College, Jhanjeri, organized the National Seminar on Laws and Policies in India related to the Agriculture Sector on 12 th May,2023. The Seminar was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) North Western Regional Centre, Punjab University, Chandigarh. The enthusiastic students of B.A.LL.B, BBA LL.B, B.ComLL.B and LLB attended the Seminar. The Chief Guest and Note Speaker was Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghuman. The Resource Persons for the technical sessions were Dr. Ajay Ranga and Prof. (Dr.) Gurpreet Pannu. The representative of ICSSR Mr. Avtar Singh was also present in the inaugural session of the seminar. The inaugural session of the seminar was held in Block-II Auditorium. The seminar began at 11:30 am. The guests inaugurated the Seminar by lightening the Lamp along with the Director of Chandigarh Law College Prof. (Dr.) Tufail Ahmed Khan and Head of the Department Dr. Gurdeep Kaur Pandher. The stage was conducted by Dr. Pinky Bangarh and Dr. Supreet Kaur. Prof. (Dr.) Tufail Ahmed Khan delivered the welcome address. He said that agriculture sector in our country needs to tackle the burning issues of Famers suicide, increase in the income of farmers and modernise agriculture. Further, Ms. Harmandeep Kaur read the profile of the Chief Guest and Note Speaker. Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghuman is currently Professor of Eminence at the Punjab school of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He is also a member of State Advisory Committee of the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission. Besides, he is a Peer team member of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC); member, Social Science Faculty of Punjabi University; member Academic Council of Lovely Professional University. Dr. Ghuman has published 16 books and 125 research papers in reputed journals and books, a number of review articles and completed 40 research projects/reports and supervised 12 Ph.D. and 25 M.Phil. scholars. ICSSR representative Mr. Avtar Singh also addressed the students. He talked about the initiatives taken by the institute to promote and facilitate research in Social Sciences. The resource person for technical session Dr. Ajay Ranga is working as Associate Professor of Law at University Institute of Legal Studies, Punjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. (Dr.) Gurpreet Pannu is a Professor at Department of Law, Punjabi University, Patiala. She has teaching experience of twenty-three years. Further, Dr. Ranjit Singh Ghuman addressed the students. He talked about the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 and its loopholes and also why the act was replaced by the Land Acquisition Act,2013. He also discussed the three Farm Laws repealed by the Central Government, Special Economic Zones Act,2005 and New Economic Policy, 1991. Then, the Head of the Department, Dr. Gurdeep Kaur Pandher delivered the Vote of Thanks. The technical sessions began after a break. The technical session-I was held in Block-I Conference Hall under resource person Prof. (Dr.) Gurpreet Pannu. There were eleven paper presenters from various colleges and universities, seven students of our college and five faculty members. The technical session-II was held in Block-II Conference Hall under resource person Dr. Ajay Ranga. Six paper presenters were from other colleges and universities, six students from our college and ten faculty members. The resource persons appreciated the best paper presenters and authors, and also gave their feedback and suggestions to the participants. The Convenors of the seminar were Dr. Tanvir Kaur, Dr. Indu Bala, Dr. Mukesh Kumar and Dr. Jaskaran Singh. They worked tirelessly and consistently for more than a month in order to organize the seminar. The Co-Convenors were Dr. Pinky Bangarh and Dr. Supreet Kaur. One hundred and twenty students of Chandigarh Law College attended the seminar. The students also participated and presented their papers in the seminar.
